Photography is about more than just pictures; it is a way of seeing the world, it is a way of life.
Where to begin?...
My name is Jon, I am a qualified teacher and photographer living and working in Dorset, UK.
I have lived my whole life within reach of the south coast and, probably as a result, I find myself drawn to the coast and the sea in all aspects of my life.
I have lived my whole life within reach of the south coast and, probably as a result, I find myself drawn to the coast and the sea in all aspects of my life.
My first real encounter with photography was a Brockenhurst College under the tuition of Walter Waygood, a fabulously eccentric Welsh photographer, who introduced us all to the darkroom and the joy of image making.
I was instantly hooked and spent most of the next year standing in the dark sniffing chemicals.

Alongside photography I was interested in design and having grown up locally I eventually went to Bournemouth University to study BSc (Hons) Product Design. After graduating I soon moved in to teaching, gaining QTS in 2008, and for many years I specialised in Graphic Design before branching out in to Product Design and Engineering.
Throughout my career photography was a returning theme; I worked on images for advertising and marketing materials while teaching, and started a wedding photography business in 2012. By 2018 we were lucky enough to have 3 children and I decided to step away from weddings due to the time constraints of my other commitments, but I never stopped feeling the draw of the camera.
After 2020 I decided to step back in to photography just for the joy of it, and decided to focus on Landscapes. The ability to decide what and when to shoot was liberating, however I missed the interaction with people which had been one of my favourite parts of wedding photography, so in 2024 I decided to move back in to portraiture. This had the benefit of meeting new people and getting to work closely with them, while removing the various constraints of weddings.
Things to know...
I am currently working on a series of personal projects based around portraiture, and with a little good fortune these will start to emerge over the next couple of years through my website and portfolio. Who knows, one of these ideas may even prove to be worth turning in to a book at some point down the line!
I am open to commissions, but I generally work with individuals rather than organisations. If you are interested in finding out more about a portrait session then please do introduce yourself via the contact page on my website and we can discuss the options available.
